What the EU Energy Efficiency Directive means for property managers
The EU Energy Efficiency Directive (EED) is gradually moving the market from annual manual reading toward more frequent, remote data collection for heat and hot water meters in multistorey buildings. In practice, this means two things for property managers: reporting consumption to residents more often, and moving toward meters or modules that support remote reading.
What changes in practice
- Residents must receive consumption information more often than once a year.
- New buildings and major renovations require newly installed meters to be remotely readable.
- Existing meters that don’t support remote reading need to be gradually fitted with an add-on module.
For buildings already running a remote-reading platform, moving to more frequent reporting is a technical detail, not a process that has to start from scratch. That’s one reason more property managers are choosing to adopt this kind of solution ahead of it becoming a mandatory requirement.
